With today being our last in Geneva
we got up early, checked out of the hostel and put our
backpack into storage. We were on a mission today!
Claire and I headed straight for the
Musee d'Art et d'Histoire and spent a couple of enjoyable
hours viewing ancient Egyptian artefacts and Rembrandt,
Van Gogh and Picasso paintings.
This time we made it onto the cruise
with plenty of time to spare and had quite possibly
the best couple of hours of our trip. The views
of the mountains that surround Geneva are just spectacular.
It was certainly worth the wait! This was
fast becoming our best day of what was already a very
enjoyable trip.
After the cruise had finished we walked
up to the Botanic Gardens and had our lunch whilst admiring
the view of the sun on Mont Blanc. The Maison
Tavel was next on our list. This was a museum
that depicted life in Geneva through the last five hundred
years. Here we saw an impressive model of 1850's
Geneva that took eighteen years to complete.
We were kicked out of the Maison Tavel
at closing time and made our way down to Place Neuve
in order to see the Reformation and Rousseau monuments.
To my delight there was a 'Rampant Lion' mosaic
by Calvin's feet at the Reformation monument. Us
Scots get everywhere you see!
After this it was time to collect
our backpack and make our way to the airport. Claire
and I had both thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Geneva
and were sad to be leaving. Although we had managed
to cover almost every inch of the city we felt at home
there and it was a real wrench to leave - always the
sign that it's been a good trip.
