I imagine there would be a lot of
people asking this question! I'm 27, I work in
IT and currently live in Liverpool. I've
had an interesting upbringing, which has taken me from
the Isle of Skye to Liverpool.
The Kinloch family moved to the Isle
of Skye having become tired of
city life. What a contrast! Skye is a very
special place with more than it's fair share of odd
country folk. My parents, Peter and Berni, along
with my wee brother, Iain, still live on Skye and run
a sporting estate (visit www.kingsburgh-sporting.co.uk
if you are interested).
I left Skye in 1999 to
go to university in Liverpool, and am still there doing
a PhD, and am in danger of settling down.
Two video diaries have been added
below to give you a taste of what it is like on one
of the Seven Summits expeditions.
Who is Gül?
Gül is my extremely patient and understanding
girlfriend. Born in Turkey and currently studying
architecture in Cyprus Gül has a bright future ahead
of her as she is top of her degree class. We met
in Cyprus at a conference and have been together since
then. Gül is one of the reasons why I am always
smiling!
Like most partners Gül
worries when I climb but is good enough to let me follow
my quest for the Seven Summits.
Once this mission
is completed I plan to follow some other lower altitude
ventures to put her mind at rest!
Why so many mountains?
For some reason that I cannot explain
I have always been drawn towards mountains. Since the
age of eight I had a picture of Mount Kilimanjaro on
my bedroom wall and vowed that one day I would climb
it.
I am lucky enough to have friends
who train with me most weekends as yet more of the UK
Munros are ticked off the list. Having reached
the summit of Kilimanjaro in 2005 I embarked on the
ambitious plan to undertake the Seven Summits Challenge
(the highest peak in each continent). Each time
I climb I try to raise awareness and some sponsorship
in the charity OCD Action.
What's the 'My Travels' page?
Travel is one of the most important
things in my life. We live in a world that is
so culturally diverse but reading about it is not enough.
My outlook on life is that I've only got one stab
at it so I'm going to see as much of the world as I
can.
It is hoped that you will enjoy the
write ups I have done for this website and that you
will start to think about where you want to travel to
next.
