Republique at night

Paris - Day 1

Due to our flight not taking off until lunch time Claire and I had a slow start to the day.  Claire needed an E111 form so we strolled down to the post office after breakfast.  With all our paperwork done we finished off our packing ready for our flight.

My Dad gave us a lift to the airport where we had ample time for a walk around as we arrived well in advance of our check in time.  We both love airports and wanted to spend some time watching planes take off and land.  Soon enough it was our turn and we boarded the plane bound for Charles de Gaulle airport.

The flight passed by very quickly and before we knew it we were on a train headed for Gare du Nord, which was our connection for the Parisian Metro.  Unfortunately, a local, who we thought was being helpful, ended up costing us a few Euros as we got tickets we didn’t really need or were able to use.

Never mind, we put that down to experience.  We made it to our hotel (Hotel de Nemours) easily enough which is situated in the Bastille and Republic areas of the city.  The room was lovely and the view was rather impressive too.  A few calls home and we were ready to start exploring.  After tea of course!

We found a cheap restaurant that did Escargot and pizza and with every mouthful I felt more relaxed as I was entering travel mode.

After we’d eaten we trekked all the way to Place de la Republique and the Bastille whilst also calling in at the Place de Voltaire.  Unfortunately we got soaked and ended up dashing home but we’d enjoyed our first taste of Paris.

Back at the hotel plans for the next day were drawn up as we dried whilst we fought our tiredness.  We fell asleep very quickly.
