Having got up early Sean and I rolled into the hostel bar
where the breakfast was being served.
Sean was down this morning as the trip was coming to an end. I’m not quite so down as I’ll be off to
Russia in ten day’s time. For a bit of
light relief we started talking a weird German who told us about his plans to
cycle all the way to the North Cape in Norway.
An interesting idea but the more he tells us the more it sounds like he
hasn’t thought things through.
After breakfast we checked out of the hostel. The only down point was that my towel had
gone missing and I had to acquire another one.
Other than that we had had a great time at the Stadtsdoelen again. On our way out we bid it farewell, but not
goodbye forever because it is a certainty that we will return…one day.
I saw Sean off at Centraal Station and made the long hike to
the Rijksmuseum. I’ve always wanted to
go and needed a full day to do it.
Today seemed the perfect opportunity.
Before I knew it it was 14:30 and time to leave feeling all
‘Rembrandt-ed’ and ‘Vermeer-ed’ out.
The museum looks similar to Le Louvre and leaves just as big an impression
on its visitors.
After a quick bite to eat I made the long walk back to the
train station. When Sean left I put my
backpack into a storage locker. Trying
to find the locker where my luggage was left proved harder than you’d
think! However, after a few frantic
minutes I got my backpack on and again somehow managed to get the correct train
ticket from the incomprehensible machine.
I boarded the train that whisked me off to Schipol
Airport ready for my flight home.
