I finished work at about 14:00 and made my way home. Having arrived home I quickly got changed
out of my suit and threw some last minute items into my trusty backpack.
Claire and I locked up the house and made our way, rather
hastily, to Ravenscourt bus terminal.
Fortunately we just made it as the bus was pulling in to the station.
After the bus pulled up we entered Liverpool John Lennon
Airport and made a beeline for the Bureau de Change. Lats are not an easy currency to get in most Bureau de Changes
but I remembered that Liverpool John Lennon Airport covered all its flight
destinations.
Having collected our Lats we joined the check in queue. Unfortunately, as always seems to be the
case, we chose the slowest of the two queues.
Several people checking in had queries or complaints and we were kept
waiting for nearly an hour.
Eventually we checked in although the delay meant that our
plans for a nice relaxing meal turned into a ten minute scramble. No less than ten minutes after wolfing down
our tea we were called to our boarding gate.
Our flight took off bang on time leaving behind Liverpool
which, as is always the case when I go to the airport, was raining. We’re on our way to Riga!
We arrived twenty minutes early at Riga Airport. Claire could hardly wait! We cleared immigration to find our bags
already on the carousel.
Having collected our bags we headed straight for the bus to
Riga city centre. In typical
Russian(ish) fashion the bus conductor wouldn’t let us on until we walked fifty
yards down the road for no apparent reason.
Anyway, having been allowed to board the bus this time we played
sardines on the cramped bus and made our way towards the hostel.
I remembered Riga better than I’d thought I would and
found the hostel immediately. We
checked in to our dorm (OUR dorm as there was no one else in it) and made our
way to a bar to catch the end of the Champions League Final. We didn’t stay out late though as we had
planned a busy day tomorrow. Next>>
